This collection is inspired by the Sargasso Sea—the only one on Earth unbounded by land.
Draw your own conclusions.
Because nobody saw it coming
When the unthinkable no longer is
The future consumed by the present
And all that remains after the breaking—
Swiftly relegated to the past
I wish one day to be reclaimed
by the heavens.
I wish to be pierced through the breast
by a merciful pelican.
I wish my heart to be clenched tightly
by the smooth grips of her extended beak.
I wish that all goodness, love, and joy flood every chamber
by the moment she snips it from my body.
I wish us flown swiftly to the interior edge of the tropopause
by a desperate ascent against gravity and mortality.
I wish for angelic resuscitation there at journey’s almost-end
by a gracious Virtue.
I wish momentous expulsion at last from her billed pouch
by a rogue and robust palpitation.
I wish to be; finally flung free of earth’s surly bonds into the cosmos
by the unfettered positive potential of outward bound inertia.
Now listen, you do not have to be “good”—
You only have to be—
Present in the procession of moments that is your life—
Taking each and every one of them on-the-nose—
The good, bad and yes, the ugly—
Walking submissively alongside your Creator—
Honestly and wholeheartedly—
Trusting the providential process—
Receptive to each and every lesson taught—
And most important of all—
Being grateful for making the journey.
The Mystery of Life?
I do not have to know;
I only have to be.
I do not aspire to know;
I only aspire to be.
I do not need to know;
I only need to be.
I do not desire to know;
I only desire to be.
I do not dream to know;
I only dream to be.
I do not live to know;
I only live to be.
